Here is an early large size wooden Dewhurst’s Sylko cotton reel in D.274 later called Sandalwood. Reels with this label design date to the first half of the 20th century.

This has been heavily used but as it’s a large reel there is still a fair bit of cotton remaining. The labels are both pierced and are a little worn.

Approximate size: Height 4.3cm Diameter 4.3cm
The amount of cotton is given in weight on this earlier style label: 1 oz/28.3g but later large size reels give the length of actual cotton as 457m/500 yards.
